Friendship of peoples in the Artek children’s camp: International education in a historical context

This article analyzes the historical experience of international education of children in the Soviet state, using the Artek children’s camp as a case study. The author examines the role of pioneer camps in the ideological and political education of the younger generation. It is shown that understanding and analyzing international education within the Soviet education system can provide a basis for scholarly and pedagogical reflection and inform innovative ideas in contemporary educational practice. Of particular importance in this regard is the humanistic potential of Soviet international education, which encompasses the ideas of tolerance and social compromises, equality and social justice, as well as the values of peace between states and peoples. The special role of Artek is highlighted as a unique platform that enabled a conceptual approach to the development of principles and methods for fostering international consciousness and behavioral patterns among children. Artek’s activities aimed at developing international consciousness contributed to the dissemination of knowledge about the life of the peoples of different countries, enhanced the significance of patriotic values, and promoted solidarity, mutual assistance, and cooperation among children. The article also addresses the importance of international education in educational policy. The author substantiates the relevance of Artek’s international experience for the modern educational system, which can incorporate such fundamental organizational and functional principles of Artek as the preservation of positive cultural traditions and their transmission. The article emphasizes the need to comprehend historical experience and highlights the importance of using the traditions of Soviet education when exploring ways to develop state policy on civic education under contemporary conditions.
