Development of a comprehensive tool for assessing factors influencing body image perception: Methodological aspects

This article discusses the theoretical and methodological aspects of developing a diagnostic questionnaire to assess body image perception and to identify the risks of body image disorders associated with various individual, macro- and micro-social factors. It presents a theoretical review of the formation of the physical self, selected aspects of body image development in ontogenesis, and factors that may contribute to the formation of a negative body image. The study aims to develop a theoretical and methodological model for a multi-level assessment of body image perception to support the creation of a diagnostic chatbot. Pilot studies resulted in the development of a diagnostic questionnaire which will serve as the foundation for the chatbot. The article describes the questionnaire’s blocks, their content, and rationale. The first block examines contextual digital factors influencing body perception. The second block incorporates standardized methods to measure physical symptoms of depression, cognitive and emotional aspects of body image perception, and the impact of appearance on respondents’ quality of life. The third block analyzes reflexive and communicative characteristics underlying body image perception. The fourth block evaluates situational factors affecting body perception and assesses strategies for coping with stress. The article also discusses the limitations
of the questionnaire and explores its potential for further development and future application.
