Cognitive biases in managerial decision-making

This article examines cognitive biases that affect managerial decision-making processes. It highlights that contemporary business trends make cognitive errors increasingly relevant for leaders at all organizational levels, as these errors can reduce efficiency and hinder sustainable development. The article presents a historical and interdisciplinary review of the concepts of ‘choice’ and ‘decisionmaking’ and identifies cognitive biases most typical of managerial practice (confirmation bias, status quo bias, overconfidence, planning fallacy, etc.). The author describes the manifestations and consequences of these biases among managers at different organizational levels. The article emphasizes the need to diagnose cognitive errors, to analyze the individual and organizational factors underlying their emergence, and to adopt contemporary strategies aimed at mitigating their effects. Attention is paid to the importance of developing critical thinking and metacognitive skills among managers in order to improve the quality of managerial decision-making. The article also discusses prospects for further research aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of cognitive processes and enhancing managers’ adaptability in a changing external environment. In conclusion, recommendations are provided for the implementation of practical tools to minimize cognitive biases and to foster a culture of conscious decision-making within organizations.
