Traditional values and their role in ensuring the sovereignty and national interests of the CIS member nations

This article examines the role of historically established traditional values of nations as a foundation for ensuring their sovereignty and development, using examples from the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The authors emphasize the importance of religion, national language, and the education system in maintaining the continuity of values and preserving the social and historical memory of populations. The functioning of the CIS and its subsidiary bodies is considered with respect to facilitating interstate dialogue on matters related to joint preservation of national cultures and traditions. An attempt is made to formulate a definition of ‘value sovereignty’. The authors observe that traditional values exert a decisive influence on political culture and are therefore increasingly targeted by destructive external interventions from geopolitical competitors. The article provides examples of foreign non-governmental organizations’ activities aimed at ‘value reprogramming’ and at distorting and discrediting national value systems. It is argued that strengthening traditional cultural values can secure the authentic and sovereign development of nations. Such development does not conflict with innovation but rather determines the direction of modernization and the evolutionary development of each country in accordance with its cultural code.
